The Historic Sheridan Inn was the home of Buffalo Bill Cody, as well as the site where he auditioned acts for his famous Wild West Show. The building’s unique architecture has also been a cause for fascination—in 1949 it was named in Ripley’s Believe It or Not as “The House of 69 Gables.”

Burlington & Missouri Railroad and the Sheridan Land Company let the contract for construction of the Sheridan Inn in December of 1892. The Inn, three-stories high and boasting 69 gables along with its original 69 rooms, three fireplaces, a Grand Ballroom, and a huge covered veranda, had a reported construction cost of $25,000. It opened for business on May 27th, 1893 with a Grand Opening following on June 27th.

The Sheridan Inn’s significance is derived from its contribution to the history of America. It represents the settlement of the West for its connection with the railroad. The Sheridan Inn’s integral connection with Buffalo Bill Cody and his “Wild West Show” adds further significance as he transported an aura of western history and culture to the nation and Europe.

Sheridan Inn Hotel Reviews

  • 5 star review  The staff was friendly and made us feel at home. We arrived on a quiet evening so the woman behind the front desk showed us the historic bar (closed temporarily) and gave us a tour of the ladies social room and the ballroom. Afterwards we enjoyed fresh baked cookies by the fire and read up on Buffalo Bill.

  • 5 star review  I can't begin to say enough about the staff at the hotel. They went way above and beyond for me during my stay. They even came in an hour early every morning to prepare breakfast for just me and a colleague during our stay because we had to be at work by 6 am. And the rooms are exquisitely renovated. It has an old time charm that you just have to experience. Can't wait to come back. Just wish the bar was operational.

  • 5 star review  We stayed here for two nights just this past weekend for a bike race that was taking place in town. Everything about our stay was fabulous, the hotel was very easy to find, and nicely situated v close (1 block) from Main Street. The staff were incredibly helpful, telling us about the history of the hotel, storing our bikes, baking cookies (and extra when we missed them one night), and just generally being superb. The room was a great size and the bathroom was modern and comfortable! I'd definitely stay there again (Sheridan is a really marvelous place) and i'm going to be recommending this hotel to everyone! Thanks folks!
